HUNDREDS of Grade R teachers in Port Elizabeth are at risk of losing their jobs due to an administrative bungle.
The problem stems from teachers not getting accredited certificates from the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP Seta).
Two Grade R teachers are now fighting what they believe is their unfair dismissal at a school in Port Elizabeth’s northern areas because they have not been able to obtain their certificates.
The two women – who had to vacate their posts at Gelvan Park Primary School two weeks ago – say they are being sabotaged by the Seta, which has failed to supply their accreditation.
Chantel Freeman, 44, and Lynn Gie, 45, are now preparing to fight for their jobs, even though they have already been replaced.
They have approached Kaplan Blumberg Attorneys to help in their fight.
Both women qualified at the Early Learning Centre in Sidwell.
Gie qualified as a Grade R practitioner in 2004, while Freeman obtained her qualification in 2013.
Both said they had received internal certificates from the centre while awaiting their Seta accreditation.
