A Butterworth man pretending to a policeman to gain entry to a woman’s home has been found guilty of rape.

Lubabalo Mbusi, 35, was sentenced to 27 years in the Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said Mbusi and another man pretending to be police officials knocked on the door of a 33-year-old woman at about 11.40pm on December 12, 2010. The woman lived at Tyiweni Locality, Manqulo Village, near Kei Bridge Butterworth.

“The victim who was with her husband opened the door for them. The suspects robbed the couple of an undisclosed amount of money. They then dragged the victim outside the house. Both of them raped the victim. They later ran away from the scene,” Manatha said.

“On the 30th of March 2011 the victim identified one of the suspects and informed the Kei Bridge Police. The suspect Lubabalo Mbusi was then arrested. He was sentenced to undergo 27 years imprisonment for rape.”

Police are still looking for the second suspect.
