DA leader Mmusi Maimane pulled out all the stops as he wowed a predominantly coloured-community audience in Nelson Mandela Bay with his Afrikaans, telling them Nelson Mandela would have supported his party.

Maimane visited the city yesterday for the third time in a month. He addressed a packed West End Community Hall in Bethelsdorp speaking in fluent Afrikaans.

Supporters dressed in party gear cheered and posed for photos with him.

Maimane said Mandela had stood for everyone and would have supported the DA as it worked for every South African. The DA was the only alternative political party for South Africans, he said.

“I am proud of the DA. That is why this party is the only party that president Nelson Mandela would be able to stand for because it stands for all people,” he said.

“There are many parties going around this metro saying Nelson Mandela Bay belongs to them. That is not true, this city belongs to the DA.”
