Garden Route police have launched a manhunt for the alleged mastermind behind the brutal murder of an elderly Great Brak River couple last month.
This comes after a 26-year-old man from Wolwedans in the small Southern Cape town was nabbed by police in connection with the murders on Tuesday.
Tewie Human, 72, and his wife Eurika, 62, were found by a police forensic team in their Sandhoogtepad home on June 18 after a neighbour saw a bloody body through a window.
Eurika’s body was found in her bed with several stab wounds to the neck. Tewie’s body was found in his garage.
He suffered blunt force trauma to the head. A postmortem revealed the couple had been killed four days earlier.
Police spokesman Captain Malcolm Pojie said Tamsamqa Sishuba had been arrested on Tuesday.
Sishuba appeared in the Great Brak River Magistrate’s Court yesterday, but the matter was postponed to today for the accused to obtain legal representation.
He is facing a double murder charge.
However, Pojie said police believed the mastermind was still at large.
“We have information that suggests that the suspect, Lebohang Rethabile Lekoro, fled the country after the crime,” Pojie said.
