Legislature told of shocking conditions at Kamesh, police garage
A DAMNING report on Uitenhage’s Kamesh police station paints a bleak picture of a facility battling to function with old infrastructure, broken vehicles and no holding cells.
The station, which serves about 120 000 residents in Uitenhage’s western areas, does not have a strongroom to store firearms safely.
Park homes that were supposed to be used for additional office space were declared “uninhabitable” due to their dilapidated state.
The Humewood police garage, where vehicles are supposed to be repaired, is beset by theft and break-ins where vehicle parts are stolen.
These damning findings were contained in the Eastern Cape’s safety and security portfolio committee report, which was tabled at the Taking the Legislature to the People sitting yesterday.
