ANC MPL Christian Martin wants DA provincial leader Athol Trollip to answer to the Eastern Cape legislature ethics committee for “degrading” the house when he referred to Nelson Mandela Bay residents as mice that had to be caught.
Martin officially lodged a complaint against the DA mayoral candidate with deputy legislature speaker Bulelwa Tunyiswa last Thursday.
The complaint comes after Trollip, when addressing the Taking the Legislature to the People sitting, quoted China leader Deng Xiaoping saying, “it doesn’t matter whether the cat is black or white as long as it catches mice”.
On Thursday, Trollip said: “There are many rats and mice that need to be caught here in the metro. The DA is a party for all South Africans.
“The DA does not select its candidates on race or colour – we simply select cats that will catch the mice that impugn human dignity.”
