U19 players bring home the cup and set scene for brighter future in Super Rugby series

JUBILANT under-19 coach Mzwandile Stick showered praise on his team after they made rugby history by becoming the first EP Kings side to lift a trophy in the top-flight A Division.

The Kings lifted the Absa Provincial U19 trophy and earned a R200 000 payday by beating the formidable Blue Bulls 25-23 in a nail-biting final at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Champagne flowed and there were tears of joy as the Kings’ juniors brought relief to their cash-strapped union who have endured several pay disputes this season.

“According to my knowledge it had never been done before by Eastern Province in any age group in the Premier A Division,” Stick said.

“I could tell from the start of the season they were committed to the cause and they did very well to go all the way.

“I have been there as player before when I could not do it and win the Premier Division.

-George Byron
