Party in East Cape aims to complete process by month end
THE ANC in the Eastern Cape is hoping to have its list of candidates for next year’s municipal elections ready by the end of the month. Provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said ANC branches would, from Thursday, start the process of nominating ward and proportional representation councillor candidates.
The party hoped to wrap up the nomination process by November 30, he said.
A usually messy process, fraught with allegations of vote rigging and chaotic branch meetings, it could be even tougher this time around.
The stakes are high. The ANC is fighting to stay in power.
To boost transparency, Mabuyane said those nominated would attend open community meetings for the ANC to hear what residents think of their fitness to hold office.
