FOOD PROTEST: Vastrap residents demonstrate outside the Booysen Park hall in which officials were held hostage Picture: FREDLIN ADRIAAN -
TWO SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) officials were locked inside the Booysen Park Community Hall yesterday by Vastrap residents demanding food parcels.
About 50 residents sang and danced outside after food promised after rain in June failed to arrive.
Community leader Simphiwe Waka, 44, said a truck had arrived yesterday but it had been turned away by Sassa officials.
“We decided the two officials would only be allowed to leave when their bosses explained why the truck was turned away,” Waka said.
